Chick-fil-A President Unapologetic about Anti-Gay Stance

Company's philosophy grounded in traditional Christian values, says President Dan Cathy.

In a new interview with the Baptist Press, President Dan Cathy—son of company founder S. Truett Cathy—responded to a question about the restaurant chain's "support of the traditional family."

Cathy's response: "Well, guilty as charged."

According to a story on today's Huffington Post, he went on to note, "We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that...we know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."

Also in the article on the Huffington Post, the company has been under scrutiny of late for published reports of Chick-fil-A's charitable work that found the fast food chain donated nearly $2 million to anti-gay groups in 2010. Among those to reportedly receive donations through Chick-fil-A's WinShape Foundation were the Marriage & Family Foundation ($1,188,380), Exodus International ($1,000) and the Family Research Council (also $1,000).

My comment ...if he thinks being gay is bad then is he perfect and never sins? Jesus wants us to talk with everyone and relate to everyone just like He did ... not treat them as outcast .. Jesus was the epitome of an "outcast"! Its so sad that this is being treated like this ... oh well! Oh, and not to make this a bigger issue but I think its rather funny how everyone has to have a side and how some feel like they are closed off to listen to what others have to say .. closed minded you might say? Oh well, we are all entitled to our own opinion - Mr. Cathay is not pushing his opinion on anyone ... just expressing it. We have the choice to act on it if we do chose so or not. God Bless America!

He isnt saying he never commited sins he is saying HE believes that marriage should be between one woman and one man. That is the beauty of America. We can believe what we want to believe in. NOT all americans believe that marriage is only between one woman and one man. Some believe you can have multiple wives and some believe in one man and one man etc... He isnt telling people they cant eat at his place, he isnt treating them like outcasts. He isnt saying you cant be together he is just saying how HE FEELS. And there is NOTHING wrong with that. I personally believe that you can marry who you want and it is up to GOD to judge us not others. SO believe what you want.. we all can voice our opinions

Very well said Addy.

Mr. Cathy expressing his opinion is one thing while his company donating $2 million to push his views on the public is quite another. I'll spend my $5 on a chicken sandwich somewhere else, thank you!

Addy, you are correct in what you say about freedom of belief -- and many people have fought and died for the rights of other Americans to hold beliefs that they themselves do not agree with. But Dale makes a couple of important points about our "marketplace of ideas" -- he (and I and my family) can take our $5 someplace else, but only if we know whose business is supporting what cause/values. The fact that Mr. Cathy owns up to his support of anti-LGBT organizations is a good thing, but there are literally hundreds of millions of anonymous dollars spent in the US every year to advocate for causes under misleading names and knowing who is behind that money can be very enlightening: It can help reveal who hopes to benefit politically and financially from the cause.

That's America.....you can spend your money where you want and Mr. Cathy is free to spend his money where he wants.

anti-gay? Seriously? I'm so tired of someone who supports traditional marriage being called anti-gay. That said, I think there are better causes to spend $ on, perhaps starving children in America, Colorado shooting/fire victims, etc? Perhaps Starbucks, General Mills, and Home Depot should be called anti-marriage because they don't support traditional marriage and spend money support SSM causes?

Here Is The Sum Of The Matter: Ald. Moreno, Is A Chicago POLITICIAN, And In My Opinion A Chicago POLITICAL "PROSTITUTE"; Because He Is Trying To SEDUCE The "SODOMITES" & "GOMORRAHITES" Of LOGAN SQUARE To Have Political "SEX" With Him In POLITICALLY "GANG-RAPING" CHICK-FIL-A: Because Of Their PUBLIC & MORAL STAND AGAINST SODOMY, THE PRACTICE OF HOMO-SEXUALITY & SAME-SEX-"MARRIAGE ! YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT I'M AGAINST THE "ghettoization" OF BUSINESSES LIKE CHICK-FIL-A; WHO HAVE THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, ASSEMBLY & ASSOCIATION: AGAINST THE MORAL & SPIRITUAL DEGENERATES IN THE SODOMITE & "GAY" COMMUNITY ! I WILL MYSELF CELEBRATE THE CHICK-FIL-A APPRECIATION DAY THIS AUG. 1st 2012; AND, WILL EAT CHICK-FIL-A CHICKEN ALL DAY LONG: AS I'M REGULARLY MOSTLY A BEEF & LAMB MEAT EATER !
