CEO Appointed For Loma Linda Murrieta

Richard Rawson will assume his role April 2.

A new chief executive officer has been hired for , it was announced today.

Richard Rawson was selected by Loma Linda University Medical Center and Loma Linda University Health System for the position, according to a news release. He will begin work April 2, when he will also assume the role of senior vice president for strategic planning at Loma Linda University Health System.

The hospital, which opened April 15, 2011, has been without a permanent CEO since the . Mel Sauder, a LLUMC-Murrieta board member, has been serving as interim CEO while a candidate search was underway.

“We are excited to have Richard Rawson on board as CEO of Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta,” said Loma Linda University Medical Center CEO Ruthita J. Fike.

“He joins us with a strong track record of performance, and his proven leadership skills will be invaluable as Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta continues to carve a role as a leading healthcare provider in the region.”

Rawson has more than 28 years of health care experience, most of it in leadership roles at Adventist Health hospitals, according to Kathryn Stiles, spokesperson for LLUMC-Murrieta.

He was vice president and CEO of Adventist Health/Central Valley Network, which are made up of four hospital campuses, 23 rural health clinics, and more than 20 other service locations in the central San Joaquin Valley, Stiles said.

"During his tenure, he oversaw construction of the 142-bed Adventist Medical Center—Hanford, the acquisition of Adventist Medical Center—Reedley, and the addition of 16 clinics to serve rural communities," Stiles said.

He previously served as corporate vice president for Central California for Adventist Health/Home Care Services; as well as president and CEO of Selma Community Hospital.

“Since opening in early 2011, Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta has become a vital part of the region and has enjoyed tremendous support from the community. This entire region is truly poised to become one of the best places to live in California. I see this as a wonderful opportunity to join a team who is bringing world class medicine to this community," Rawson said, in the news release. “My wife, Sandee, and I, are excited to make our home in southwest Riverside County.”

Rawson earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Loma Linda University and a master’s degree in business administration degree from California State University, Bakersfield. He and his wife have a grown daughter, Shauna.
