Wreck Snarls Traffic on I-215 North in Murrieta

Northbound Interstate 215 was flowing freely again after a brief Sigalert Wednesday afternoon due to a wreck involving three vehicles.

The crash was reported at 12:22 p.m. just south of the Scott Road exit, California Highway Patrol Officer Nathan Baer confirmed.

Baer said the accident occurred when a Silver Honda traveling north in the number one lane failed to stop in time to avoid slowing traffic.

"The Honda hit the rear end of an S-10 pickup," Baer said. "This made the S-10 overturn. It struck a Chevy Malibu ahead of it, and the S-10 came to rest in the number two lane on its roof."

The driver of the Honda and the driver of the S-10 and his passenger were all transported by ambulances to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, according to Baer.

A Sigalert was briefly issued for the northbound lanes—traffic was backed up past Clinton Keith Road—but was canceled as of 1:13 p.m. and all lanes reopened, he said.

The crash may have indirectly caused a few other minor collisions, Baer said.

This included one that happened about 25 minutes later, when a Nissan Versa was sideswiped by a big rig as the smaller vehicle's driver attempted to get around traffic by skirting the shoulder of the freeway, according to CHP.
