The crash, which resulted in a brush fire, was reported at about 11:11 a.m. at the northbound onramp to Interstate 215 at Scott Road, at the Murrieta-Menifee border.

Fire crews worked quickly to gain control of a brush fire that was sparked Thursday when an SUV rolled off a freeway onramp.

The crash was reported at about 11:11 a.m. Thursday at the northbound onramp to Interstate 215 at Scott Road, at the Murrieta-Menifee border, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch Web page.

The SUV, described as a smaller model, reportedly rolled off the ravine and caught fire. The flames spread to nearby brush.

The occupants of the SUV—possibly including a small child—were safely out of the vehicle by the time emergency personnel arrived, a CHP dispatcher wrote.

The onramp was closed to traffic as a result of the fire.

The number two lane of northbound I-215 was also closed near the scene.
