Brush Fire Along I-215 Stopped At 1 Acre

Brush fire breaks out Friday during rush hour along the east shoulder of northbound Interstate 215 in Murrieta, just past the I-15/215 split.

A brush fire that broke out during rush hour Friday along northbound Interstate 215 in Murrieta was contained to about one acre.

Numerous callers began reporting the flames at about 5:13 p.m. Friday, according to police radio conversation.

The fire was to the east of the freeway just past the I-15/215 split.

It had the potential of spreading to a nearby manufactured home, but did not due to quick response and proper brush clearance, Murrieta fire Battalion Chief Mario Monroy said.

Crews from all five Murrieta fire stations responded, along with one CAL FIRE/Riverside County unit, Monroy said.

The engines accessed the fire from Jackson Avenue.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
