1 Transported To Hospital After Rollover Crash

The wreck occurred at about 3 p.m at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Calle del Oso Oro in Murrieta.

A teen boy was transported to a local emergency room Friday afternoon after the vehicle he was riding in with family members rolled over during a crash at the intersection at the Washington Avenue and Calle del Oso Oro in Murrieta.

The crash, involving two SUVs, occurred at around 3 p.m., according to Murrieta police Sgt. Dave Baca.

The sergeant said one of the vehicles--it was unclear which one--was traveling southwest on Calle del Oso Oro, while the other was traveling north on Washington.

Preliminary investigation pointed to the possibility that one of the drivers may have failed to stop at a red light, Baca said.

Murrieta fire Capt. Chris Swift said there were three people in each car.

Firefighter/paramedics rescued the teenager from the backseat of a silver Dodge Caliber after securing the vehicle that was perched on its side.

The other car, a white Cadillac, appeared to have front end damage. Its side airbags had deployed.

Swift said the driver of that car was being observed for minor injuries but would likely not be transported to a hospital.

There were no indicators that alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to Baca.

Murrieta police were directing traffic at the intersection.

Both cars had to be towed.

As he surveyed the scene, Baca reminded motorists to "drive defensively, be aware of your surroundings. Take your driving very seriously."
