VMHS Student to Perform with Steve Miller

Jeremy Reichenbach, a junior at Vista Murrieta High School, will perform with the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra during Steve Miller's Rock Symphony.

When Steve Miller takes the stage for Rock Symphony on Sunday in Temecula, the veteran rocker will be complimented by sounds from the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, which includes a talented high school musician from Murrieta, Jeremy Reichenbach.

Jeremy, 16, is a junior at and the only musician from Southwest Riverside County to be accepted to the 96-member PSYO. The youth symphony is affiliated with Costa Mesa-based Pacific Symphony. Three hundred musicians auditioned last spring for a seat with the ensemble, and fewer than one third of them made it, including Jeremy, who was invited to be the principal trumpet.

Jeremy started playing the trumpet in the fifth grade, when he wanted to learn how to play “Star Wars” music by John Williams. He is now the trumpet section leader on the school’s award-winning marching band, the Golden Alliance. He also has been first chair in Vista Murrieta’s highest performance group, the Wind Ensemble, since his sophomore year.

In the 1970s and ‘80s, Miller was the guitarist and lead vocalist for the self-titled band known for a string of hit singles that remain staples of the classic rock radio format. The songs include “Abracadabra,” ”The Joker,” “Fly Like an Eagle” and “Take the Money and Run.”

On Sunday, Miller's classic rock hits will be combined with classical music for what is being described as a "crossover" concert.

The concert at Town Square Park in Civic Center Plaza in Old Town Temecula will support the Kids Rock Free afterschool music program at the new Context Middle School, which opened this school year in Temecula.
