A young Murrieta local is set to perform in Temecula next week.
Murrieta singer/songwriter Ashley Zavala is scheduled to perform at the Valley's Newest Singer Songwriter Showcase in Temecula Jan. 19.
The 7 p.m. performance is set to take place at Simply Sharon's Restaurant, 27464 Jefferson Ave.
Zavala, 18, recently performed at the in September. A graduate of Julian Charter School, she also attended Linfield Christian School and is currently attending Mount San Jacinto College in Menifee.
Simply Sharon's Restaurant and its Temequila Lounge -- it took over the old Tony Roma's restaurant on Jefferson Boulevard -- has become the go-to place for local talent and entertainment, Zavala said.
"This year is getting off to an exciting start," Zavala told Patch.
"There are many new venues in the Valley for us aspiring artists to perfect our talent.
"For that we are all grateful."
The restaurant has offered an Open Mic Night for some time but last week debuted it’s Singer Songwriter Night.
Held at 7 p.m. Thursdays, it is a place for various genres to be spolighted by local talent, such as Jason Weber, Darryl Williams and Jeffery Johnson.
Zavala said her music is in the style of Taylor Swift and Colbie Caillat with a little bit of pop and country crossover.
The singer/songwriter released her first Extended Play recording, titled Gilded Butterflies, early last year and is preparing a remix of those songs with the addition of new ones soon.
Her music is available on iTunes, Amazon Music and Napster.
Zavala is also scheduled to perform again at this year’s Temecula Live Songwriters showcase. Her performance -- of original material -- is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 28.
"Audience members will get an up close and personal experience in the Merc Theater," Zavala said.
Temecula Live will be held Jan. 27 and 28th at the , 42051 Main St.
