Murrieta Field of Honor: Choral Candlelight Concert

A field of 2,011 American flags will be on display during the week of Veterans Day (November 6-12) at Town Square Park in Historic Downtown Murrieta.  The Field honors those who have served or are serving in the armed forces of our country, law enforcement, fire and other first responders and personal heroes.

The 2011 "Field of Honor" week will include a variety of moving tributes. 

Tuesday, November 8 at 6 p.m., Murrieta high school choirs will give a Choral Candlelight Concert.

US Marine Corps 235th Birthday at the Field of Honor will be Thursday (Nov. 10) at noon.

During the week the third annual "Field of Honor" is flying, there will be several special events including the City's Veteran's Day Parade (Nov. 11), ceremonies,  and tributes and activities.  The event is a partnership between the Rotary Club of  Murrieta and the City of Murrieta.On Veteran's Day, the City parade starts at 10 a.m. with a wide variety of entries, including the Rotary Club of Murrieta, who will be carrying Flags to the Field.  The parade route will begin at Ivy Street on Washington Avenue in Historic Downtown and go north to B Street then east to end at Town Square Park.

On Monday through Thursday mornings, all fifth grade students in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District will visit the field on an educational field trip.

Veterans Assistance Day will be on Saturday (Nov. 12) with support activities, information, and entertainment; followed at 3 pm by the Closing Ceremony for the Field.

Individuals can purchase a 3'x5' American flag on an 8' pole to fly proudly in the "Field of  Honor" for $35.  On Sunday (Nov. 13) the field will be retired, and purchasers can pick up their flags  from 10 am to 3 pm.  To sponsor your flag, you can visit MurrietaFieldofHonor.com/SponsorAFlag or contact Frank Donahoe, co-chair (951-704-3622), for more details.  Net proceeds from the "Field of Honor" will benefit the "Murrieta Through Time" history walk project and City's Veterans Memorial, both at Town Square Park.
