Squirmy Worms, an Accidental Business

What started as an attempt to create a cute, useful and thoughtful baby shower gift turned into one stay-at-home mom's business.

What started as an attempt to create a cute, useful and thoughtful baby shower gift turned into one stay-at-home mom’s business. Now she'll be selling her creations to throngs of waiting Murrietans at the .

After getting a suggestion from her mom, Jen Tulpule, owner of Squirmy Worms, made a diaper cake for her friends baby shower.

“Everyone loved it,” Tulpule said. “Throughout [the shower], people kept coming up to me asking if I made it and if I could make one for them.”

She started selling locally and after she posted pictures on Facebook her client base expanded. Now, Tulpule sells nationwide through the crafting site etsy.com and sets up shop every Wednesday at the Temecula Farmer’s Market at the Promenade Mall.

It’s not just diaper cakes either -- Squirmy Worms is all about baby.

“I look at things so differently now,” said Tulpule.  “I’m always trying to figure out a way to create [the] things I see out of diapers.”

She said her unique baby items are perfect for baby showers, birthday parties or any other baby related event.

Items range in price from $2 to $90 and include washcloth lollipops, diaper dresses, and baby blankets, all completely usable with no glue used on the clothing, diapers or toys.

All are hand-made by Tulpule who completes the projects in her living room in her spare time. A stay at-home-mom, she cares for her three year old son and spends about 4 to 5 hours a day on her business.

Additionally, Tulpule works closely with each buyer to ensure their order is exactly what they want.

“I can make anything with theme or colors the customer has in mind,” Tulpule said. “Every single one ends up being different depending on the theme or décor in mind.”
