A Murrieta woman was recently honored for her equine skills and dedication, recieving  the 2013 Professional’s Choice Professional Horsewoman of the Year Award from the American Quarter Horse Association.

Kelley Roberts received the award March 8 at the 2014 AQHA Convention in New Orleans.

"An inspiration to many, Roberts is a two-time cancer survivor and is always positive and determined," an announcement of the award sent to Patch states.  "Even when ill and undergoing treatments, she put the needs of the horses and her customers in front of her own."

The organization cited Roberts' time helping with the Association and youth programs as additional reasons for her award.

Here's more from their announcement:

[Roberts] has an incredible attitude and is always positive, even in the worst of times.

Because of her incredible encouragement, Roberts has gotten many others involved in AQHA. Roberts has dedicated her life to the industry and is a true role model.

The Professional’s Choice Professional Horsewoman of the Year award is one of the most prestigious awards given to AQHA’s Professional Horsemen and -women. This award, voted on by peers, is recognition of the impact the individual has made on the industry.
