Murrieta Rod Run 'Friday Night Cruise' Draws Big Crowd; Sells Out
Streets were closed for dozens of retail, food and drink vendors while cars revved up and down Washington Avenue.
More than 350 hot rods and classic cars lined Washington Avenue in Historic Downtown Murrieta Friday evening, as hundreds of spectators and enthusiasts gathered for the 2013 Murrieta Rod Run “Friday Night Cruise," an inaugural event for the city.
Streets were closed for dozens of retail, food and drink vendors while cars revved up and down Washington Avenue. The crowd got a got a small taste for Saturday’s car show and street festival, to be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Washington between Kalmia and Ivy Streets.
“We are indeed proud to have the first annual Murrieta Rod Run," said Murrieta Mayor Rick Gibbs. "This is a fantastic event! We are sold out at 350 cars and more are coming."

The event is free to the public, but those who display their cars are charged a small fee. Proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County in order for the nonprofit to renovate the Murrieta Clubhouse at California Oaks Sports Park.
“There was some speculation at first about the turnout of this event but tonight was big for the City of Murrieta, the turnout was fantastic, and I’m excited for what tomorrow will bring,” said community resident Frank Adams.
