Murrieta Library to Celebrate Día De Los Niños

This event is an annual celebration of children, families and reading that has evolved from the Mexican tradition El día del niño—The Day of the Child.

The Murrieta Public Library plans to join hundreds of libraries in celebrating the 16th anniversary of El día de los niños/El día de los libros—Children's Day/Book Day.

The event begins at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Library's Garden of Verses. Festivities will celebrate Latino heritage with tortilla making, flower crafts, treats for children and their families, a live dance performance by Lake Elsinore Ballet Folklorico and a chance to swing at a piñata.

The program emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds, according to a Library news release.

“Libraries are part of the American Dream, as places that support family, education, self-help and lifelong learning,” said Allison Eagans, youth services librarian. “The Murrieta Library’s goal in providing this event is to share some of the traditions of the Latino culture as well as to celebrate this region’s rich history with the community.”
