Mulligan Family Fun Center Opens Water Attraction

Mulligan Family Fun Center opened its water slides to the public Saturday.

Approaching the water slides at , one might think they are at a lavish water park, instead of in the heart of Murrieta next to the bustling Interstate 15.

“This is a great new destination for us,” said Murrieta resident Rusti Banagas. “It’s big, but not big enough to lose your child--good for those spontaneous 90-degree days.”

Banagas brought her 2-year-old son, Cash, to play in the toddler area, where the height requirement is only 36 inches.

“Parents can stand right next to the slide so the kids feel safe. They also don’t dump into a pool, so the children aren’t so scared and parents don’t have to hurry or get wet to get their child,” Banagas said.

Five slides comprise the fun center's newest attaction.

While the area officially opened July 22, Mulligan celebrated Saturday by offering special pricing and barbecued hamburgers. The local radio station KATY was also on hand--the station had given away free passes to the family fun center as part of a weeklong promotion.

Mulligan Group Sales Manager Scott Agajanian explained the attributes of the water feature.

“There is a toddler slide, two smaller slides and two bigger slides on the upper tier,” Agajanian said. “Each slide is monitored by an attendant; the bigger slides are monitored by two attendants.”

Along with the slides, there is a cabana that can be rented for $50 a day and a shaded seating area by the entrance so parents can relax and watch their child.

Many patrons were impressed with the size of the slides and appreciated the consideration and safety precautions Mulligan took in creating the area.

Several guests drove from San Diego County to try them out.

Ramona resident Chris Collins brought his 5-year-old daughter, Cora.

“I was really surprised at how big it is; it’s bigger than the slides at LEGOLAND,” Collins said. "There are tons of attendants, it’s enclosed and there is only one exit, which makes me feel better about letting my child run around.”

Vista resident Maria Zavala came with family and rented the cabana for the day.

“It’s not too far (and) it's fun and affordable,” Zavala said. “It’s also clean, which is unusual to find in the bigger places.”

While the parents enjoy the cleanliness and safety, the children were smitten with the slides.

“My favorite slide is the orange slide,” said Yasmine Ramirez, 8. “It’s dark and echoes a lot--it’s so fun!”

The slides seem to be a hit, with parents and children alike. Opening the attraction is phase one in the fun center's five-year plan-- Agajanian said it is only the beginning. The center plans to incorporate a water theme in each outdoor area and add more slides and water-based activities.

The water slides will be open daily through Aug. 10 and then Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until late September. After that, they will be open as weather permits. For more information and pricing,
