Lose a Pet in Menifee? They Are Now Going to the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus

The following was submitted for publication by the Riverside County Department of Animal Services:

Riverside County Animal Services is now providing sheltering services for any stray pets found in the city of Menifee.

Animal control officers will bring the stray pets to the county’s San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus (581 S. Grand Ave., 92582). This county facility is also the same location where Good Samaritans can bring an animal found in Menifee to get examined and cared for by county workers. Pet owners in Menifee may also relinquish their own animal at this shelter, or request humane euthanasia for their pet.

The number to call: 951-358-7387. A link to the shelter’s hours of operations and a map can be found here: http://www.rcdas.org/home/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=80&Itemid=35

All the stray pets’ photos will be posted on a link that can easily be found on the county’s official Web site: www.rcdas.org. Pet owners should click on the LOST AND FOUND PETS tab on the left side of the screen to find pets that have recently been impounded at the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus.

The county uses Pet Harbor, an online, third-party database, to help assist worried pet owners in reuniting with their pets. Pet owners can click on various search parameters, such as dog or cat, gender, age and size.

Of course, pet owners are always encouraged to have their animal microchipped. A microchip helps assist with the reunion process in a faster manner. And pet owners missing their animal should always visit the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus (and other area shelters) in person, regularly, to ensure a higher chance of redeeming their pet. Sometimes a pet’s photo, especially if it has been missing a few days, may not resemble their pet’s features, and this could result in a pet owner not recognizing an online photo of their dog or cat.

Animal Friends of the Valleys, based in Wildomar, is the organization that provides Menifee with animal control officers and city residents with dog licensing. The number is 951-674-0618.
