Get Out: Five Ideas for Your Weekend

Look up, walk on and stamp out this weekend.

The weather is just right for an outdoor air show this weekend. In addition to watching planes zoom by, you can also help out several great causes and see a classic movie.

Our goal is to make the Get Out planner as reliable as possible, but keep in mind, some events change at the last minute. We advise calling ahead just in case.

When/Where: This Saturday in every city nationwide

Why Go: This food drive sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, has collected over three-quarters of a billion pounds of food since inception in 1993. To participate, simply place non-perishable food products like canned meats and fish, bottled juice, rice and pasta etc. in bags and leave them at your mailbox. Your letter carrier will pick them up and deliver them to local food banks or pantries.

When/Where: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday at the Planes of Fame Air Museum, 7000 Merrill Ave Ste 17, Chino

Why Go: It’s a drive, yes, but this is one of the best air shows around. This year’s show will feature over 40 historic aircraft as and a salute to 100 years of Naval aviation. Don’t forget sunscreen, a folding chair and your camera.

Why Go: is a friendly community walk around a quarter mile track located at the Murrieta campus. Walkers, runners, baby strollers and senior scooters are invited to walk or run as much as they wish. There will also be a fun jump for kids; food vendors like Juice It Up, Fired Up Mobile Pizza and Charley’s Subs and entertainment provided by DJ James Genes from Day & Night DJ Service. Proceeds will benefit a new gym and multipurpose room for the Murrieta campus, as well as an Autism Camp planned for this summer.

Pricing: $20 registration fee, waived for those who raise $75 or more

When/Where: 9:15 a.m. this Sunday at the Temecula Gun Club, 36501-37461 Rancho California Rd # 79, Temecula

Why Go: Come honor Fire Chief Phil Armentrout by participating in one of his favorite events. Started by Phil in 2005, the is hosting the 7th Annual Memorial Trap Shoot in his honor. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
