City of Murrieta Hosting 9/11 Observance Ceremony

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the City of Murrieta will pay tribute to those who perished on Sept. 11, 2001 in a ceremony to be held at dusk at Town Square Park.

The public is encouraged to attend the City of Murrieta's first 9/11 Observance Ceremony.

Meant as a time of reflection and remembrance, the 9/11 ceremony will include comments from the Murrieta police and fire chiefs and possibly City Council, according to Laura Frasso, special events coordinator for the city.

Police honor guard will present the colors, and a bagpiper will play.

There will also be a 9/11 flag.

Luminary bags will be placed around the park, one for each person who perished in the attacks, Frasso said.

Also, there will be a book in which community members can write their thoughts. The book will be kept in the Heritage Room of the Murrieta Public Library, according to Frasso.

Prior to the event, Murrieta City Council on Tuesday is scheduled to discuss the formation of a 9/11 Memorial Committee. The memorial would be erected at Town Square.
