5 Things to Know in Murrieta Oct. 25

Get warm around the fireplace at the Murrieta Public Library while listening to scary stories.

1. Fall is back with showers, according to the National Weather Service. There is a chance of drizzle and patchy fog before 11 a.m. today. Otherwise, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 70. Tonight there is a 20 percent of showers after 11 p.m. with mostly cloudy skies and a low near 49.

2. Don't be a scaredy-cat; head to the Murrieta Public Library where Library staff will read scary stories from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Families are welcome to gather around the fireplace in the Library's Garden of Verses for tales that are sure to send chills down the spine. Warm beverages will be served. For personal comfort, participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. The event is free and open to public, and is sponsored by the Friends of the Murrieta Library. The Library is located at Eight Town Square, off Adams Avenue and Kalmia Street. 3. Here's what's for lunch today at elementary schools in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District: taco nada. Lunches are served with a fresh fruit/salad bar and a choice of juice or milk. 4. Join Chick-fil-A for its “Family Fun Night” between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. On tonight’s agenda: make your own fall ice-cream sundae. Each child will get to decorate and enjoy their own sundae. Materials will be provided. Located at 24794 Madison Ave., the event is free.

5. Every Tuesday at 11 a.m., Reading Cinemas presents the "Crybaby Matinee." Relax and enjoy a movie without worrying about unexpected tantrums or feedings in the dark; they keep the lights dimmed and the sound volume down. Baby-changing tables and stroller valet are also provided for the convenience of the parents. Showing today: “Footloose” (PG-13). Starring Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald, city kid Ren MacCormack moves to a small town where rock 'n' roll and dancing have been banned, and his rebellious spirit shakes up the populace. Admission is $8; children under 5 get in free.

TRAFFIC ADVISORIES: For tonight, closures are as follows:

INTERSTATE 215: Lane closures are scheduled for Interstate 215 between Clinton Keith and Scott roads. The northbound and southbound number one lanes will experience intermittent closures between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. due to roadway excavation.

CALIFORNIA OAKS ROAD/KALMIA STREET at Interstate 15 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. tonight through Oct. 28. The closures are due to construction on the freeway bridge, as well as road and ramp improvements.
