5 Things to Know in Murrieta Oct. 24

It will be considerably cooler today.

1. This manic Monday will be cooler, according to the National Weather Service. Today will be sunny with a high near 79. Tonight, expect mostly clear skies with a low near 46.  

2. For students at who are college bound, don’t miss the opportunity to meet with representatives from some potential colleges.  Today UC Riverside, Drury University and University of Arizona will be available throughout the day; get your questions reading and for a list of representatives and times, click here.

3. Here's what's for lunch today at elementary schools in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District: chicken nuggets and hugs not drugs cookies. Lunches are served with a fresh fruit/salad bar and a choice of juice or milk. Lunches average about 658 calories and 16.29 percent fat. To see middle and high school menus, click here.

4. The Inland Valley Youth Symphony and the Wind Symphony will present their Fall Concert "Contrasts" at 7 p.m. at Murrieta Mesa High School in the Gershwin Performing Arts Center. Conducted by Karen Thurman-Palmer, "Contrasts" will feature the area's young classical talents.

5. Kids eat free today at . Between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., enjoy one free meal off the children’s menu for every adult entrée purchased. The children’s menu includes cheeseburger slammers, corn dogs, wings, chicken tenders and mac’ and cheese.

TRAFFIC ADVISORIES:

INTERSTATE 215: Lane closures are scheduled tonight for Interstate 215 between Clinton Keith and Scott roads. The northbound and southbound number one lanes will experience intermittent closures between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. due to roadway excavation. 

CALIFORNIA OAKS ROAD/KALMIA STREET at Interstate 15 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. tonight through Oct. 28. The closures are due to construction on the freeway bridge, as well as road and ramp improvements.
