'The Last Unicorn' Author to Appear at Murrieta Screening Tonight; Other Things to Know

Here are five things to know Aug. 22 in Murrieta, Calif.

1. It will be another scorcher in Murrieta, with a high temperature of 98 degrees forecast by the National Weather Service. Thursday night will be mostly clear with a low overnight temperature of 63.

2. The 1982 classic animated film, "The Last Unicorn" is back in theaters for special screenings with the author Peter S. Beagle, including a 7 p.m. showing tonight at Reading Cinemas Cal Oaks 17 in Murrieta. Watch the 2K Digital Cinema Print on the big screen and meet author Peter S. Beagle on site in Murrieta. 3. Paws 4 Law, a nonprofit organization that supports the Murrieta Police Department K9 Team, is seeking volunteers for its second annual benefit event to be held Saturday, Oct. 5 on the sports field at Calvary Chapel Christian Schools in Murrieta. 4. Here’s what’s for lunch today at elementary schools in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District: chicken burger. Lunches average 639 calories and 28.64 percent fat, and are served with a fruit and salad bar, juice or milk. To view middle and high school menus, click here.

5. The average price of gasoline in the Inland Empire dropped today to its lowest amount since Jan. 31, decreasing seven-tenths of a cent to $3.857 for a gallon of self-serve regular. The average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties has fallen for 22 consecutive days and 28 of the past 29, according to AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 5 cents less than a week ago, 21.6 cents lower than a month ago and 24.4 cents below what it was a year ago. The average price fell 21.2 cents over the past 29 days, including three- tenths of a cent on both Monday and Tuesday.
