A Temecula police checkpoint is also being held—from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.—at an undisclosed location within Temecula city limits.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Inland Empire dropped Thursday to its lowest amount since May 6, decreasing 1.5 cents to $3.892, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. That is 6.7 cents less than one week ago in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, 15.2 cents lower than one month ago and 19.4 cents below what it was one year ago.

Savers thrift store in Murrieta is holding its first annual Block Party Donation Drive in honor of back-to-school, according to an emailed announcement. The event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 and will feature contests, games, and prizes, free face-painting and a chance to enter to win a bicycle. The store encourages all attendees to bring a donation, which supports their nonprofit partner, Hope Services. The store is located at 25125 Madison Avenue, Suite 102, Murrieta.
