Second Suspect Arrested in Elder Abuse Stunt

A second suspect who is a convicted felon has been arrested in the burglary and elder abuse of a 97-year-old Murrieta woman.

Brent Paul Longo, 31, was arrested at about 5:23 p.m. Friday in Menifee after his accomplice, taken into custody earlier in the day, Murrieta police Sgt. Phil Gomez confirmed Monday.

"He was identified by the female suspect in our case," Gomez said, in an email to Patch.

Longo and Escarsega allegedly posed as caregivers Jan. 24 to enter the home of a 97-year-old Murrieta woman. Her credit cards, identification and a handgun were allegedly taken by the pair.

Gomez said Longo's arrest coincided with his arrest by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department for crimes that he had allegedly been involved in in their jurisdiction.

"It was just a coincidence that we both wanted him the same day," Gomez said.

Longo was being held Monday at Southwest Detention Center on $95,000 bail, according to jail records. He was booked on suspicion of residential burglary, elder abuse, possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession and concealment of a firearm, records showed. He was due in court Thursday.

Escarsega was released Saturday from Robert Presley Detention Center on $25,000 bail, records showed, and was due in court April 6.
