Robbery Suspect Arrested in Hospital Emergency Room

Joseph Scott, 18, is suspected of robbing a 17-year-old male in Murrieta Saturday night.

An 18-year-old man from Winchester was arrested at a hospital emergency room Saturday night, suspected of robbing and beating a 17-year-old male hours earlier in Murrieta, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Relatives of the 17-year-old detained the suspect, Joseph Scott, at the hospital until deputies arrived.

The 17-year-old was walking on Benton Road east of Winchester Road around 9:25 p.m. when he was approached by five males including Scott, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Jim Larson. Scott demanded that the juvenile give up his belongings, and he struck the juvenile and knocked him to the ground after he refused.

A fight broke out between Scott and the juvenile, and several items belonging to the juvenile were stolen from him, according to Larson.

The juvenile ran home and was taken to a hospital by family members to treat injuries he sustained during the fight. While they were there Scott entered the hospital as well and was recognized as the suspect by the juvenile’s family. He was held until deputies arrived and arrested him.

Scott was booked into the Southwest Detention Center for second-degree robbery, receiving stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance, all felonies, and misdemeanor trespassing. According to jail records Scott is being held without bail on a Riverside warrant.
