Police Arrest Four Teens, Recover Stolen Custom Skateboards

Murrieta police were called at 2:55 p.m. by someone reporting that four youths took the skateboards from an open garage, police said.

Four teenagers were behind bars today, suspected of stealing six custom skateboards worth more than $1,000 from an open garage in Murrieta, police said.

Police were called just before 3 p.m. to a home at 40300 Via Reata to investigate the burglary, according to Murrieta police Sgt. Steve Dyer.

The homeowner did not see the burglary but a neighbor spotted the suspects and called police, Dyer said.

The witness provided suspect information and a description of the getaway vehicle to the emergency dispatcher, police said.

The owner of the boards is a custom skateboard builder who valued the boards at more than $1,000, Dyer said.

About 30 minutes later, an officer spotted the suspect vehicle parked in front of a home at 24000 Camino Vasco and when a juvenile walked up to the house, he was detained and questioned, police said.

The officer was led to another home where the other three suspects were taken into custody. The stolen boards were found hidden in a backyard, police said.

The six skateboards were returned to their owner and the teens were arrested and booked on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime, the sergeant said.

Yes, big news, and just the start of full grown criminals. :/ Unless, we can hope, they learn a lesson to not take what is not theirs.

I don't know if this was them, but I have noticed a pretty large group (maybe 15 or so) of unruly teenage boys on bmx bikes in that area. Most of them are just followers; probably pretty good kids, but some are more vocal and like to try to shock and intimidate adults by cursing loudly (yelling F bombs), and making drug references. Wife and I walk a lot, and have seen this group many times. Always the same kind of unfriendly behavior. They're quite obnoxious actually. I wonder if this was some of them. Parents - watch your kids. Don't be their friend; be their parent.

Yep Action. Especially the last part of which I am guilty of as a parent, being too much a friend.

Lady, I don't know what planet you are living on or what you are smoking, but I have a newsflash for you. Stealing is a crime regardless of age, gender, etc. Why should I have to close my garage door because your kids are so called "being kids".

I think Maci must be a kid otherwise I am bowled over that a parent would say this. Lisa you are right, we should not have to close our garage doors, or if we do sit there with a BB gun and protect it eh? As soon as they walk in a BB to the butt. But seriously we do have more and more of a problem with the kids in Temecula, Murrieta and most of us know it, with thefts and drugs.

Oh give me a break! So you mean to say you did nothing bad growing up?! Kids will be kids however let's hope they have learned a lesson, and let me just remind all the perfect do gooders that EVERYONE has a time when they have done something foolish, I have had conversations with lawyer friends, Dr friends etc. Who joke about how terrible they seemed as kids. I just think It's a shame that once upon a time kids weren't treated lime adults! They don't think of consequences yet. They are punished too harshly, and given criminal records. I put my hand in the cookie jar and never stole a thing. But I understand no one is perfect! Maybe I am a little naive in thinking the kids and their parents are well rounded and doing their best. I really just hope for that! We never want to see children as criminals. It takes a community to raise a child. And communication among one another. Most of all respect for each other and they learn from our actions. So if we act right they act right! I have a 17 year old who gave me a little trouble but with hard work and understanding him he makes me proud today with his morals and integrity.

That is great regarding your 17year old. The rest of what you wrote is bunch of bs. My kids are not perfect either, but if they ever did anytihing to the degree of this article, I would not categorize it as "kids being kids". Get you head out of the clouds.

This is not a matter of "kids being kids"...it's a matter of kids being criminals, and probably the result of parents continually turning a blind eye.

What would happen in the hypothetical case of "homeowner being a homeowner", when they find a bunch of malcontent, ne'er-do-well teens inside their house grabbing a bunch of stuff...and all of the sudden these teens are looking down the business end of a pistol?? I bet only then their parents put down their Budweisers, and suddenly come out of the woodwork.

That a garage door was left open is immaterial! These kids ripped off the custom skateboards because something went very wrong with their upbringings. I'll also take the leap that they were going to sell the custom skateboards for pennies on the dollar to purchase drugs.

Yep Lisa and Sand, good points and very true on the drugs. When I was a kid and would walk by something cool in someones garage I would sit out on the sidewalk and check it out and then if they owner did come out tell them it was cool, and start a conversation about it. I was a girl, but I liked bikes, skateboards, surfboards, even wayyyy back then, so it gave me alot of interest, but never never crossed my mind to steal something that belonged to someone else.

Sandalina is so right. Hard to hear for some I'm sure. I was no saint when I was a teen. I partied and all that, but I was not a thief! My parents would have flipped out if I'd been arrested for stealing $1000 of our neighbors property! My freedom would have been completely taken away, probably until I was an adult. Kids will be kids and it takes a village? Bite me. Garage door was open, so naturally they couldn't resist and this is understandable? Nonsense. This is serious and those "kids" need to be punished and fully supervised from now on. That said, I do think they should be able to start adulthood with a clean slate and no criminal record, but that is the ONLY break they should get regarding this crime. Unless they are already repeat offenders. Then it's probably too late for them, and the focus should just be on protecting the rest of us normal folks.

On the other hand, weed and meth are not cheap, and their allowance probably is not sufficient.

Man up out there Dads, and Mom up out there Moms!

Hallalulla. I also think that depending on the crime it needs to wash off at 18 or the kids feel they do NOT stand a chance yet again.

its sad how none of you have any thing better to do than be commenting on each others statuses. Words of advice get a life. P.S - no one cares what you think about these kids just saying.

Stacy!!! How dare you! I have a life. I am disabled, love to read the news and see the good and sometimes bad that goes on in our neighborhoods. This article is one that makes me check my door locks, and the garage door, as it should you instead of berating us for caring about our community and its crimes, criminals. Obviously you do as you had to read alot of comments to get this far. :)

How do the good citizens of Murrieta protect their property from "kids being kids"? Is there a map that the police can publish showing where the over-indugent lackadaisical parents reside?

Yeah! This is better than watching COPS on the T.V. I love it when neighbors help each other out and help the police catch the bad guys.
