PHOTOS: Cyclists Compete for Times Along Grueling Tour de Murrieta Route

Riders competed for the best times Friday, powering through a 4.14-mile grueling course.

The 2013 Tour de Murrieta kicked into gear Friday with the "We All Ride" Time Trial, a 4.14-mile course from Historic Downtown Murrieta to De Luz and back.

Like no other time trial in Southern California, its European-style terrain consists primarily of paved roadway—at times uphill—plus a 1.2-mile portion of unpaved/hard compact dirt that presents a challenge to all riders.

Riders departed and returned from Kalmia Street and Calle Estancia between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, though the last of the heats was canceled due to rain.
