Pastor Charged in Sex With Minor Case
Matthias Anderson, 41, lead pastor of New Wine Ministries International in Oceanside, appeared in court Thursday to answer to 34 criminal sex charges.
An Oceanside pastor accused of having sex with a child in Murrieta appeared in court Thursday to answer to 34 criminal sex charges but did not enter a plea.
Matthias Anderson, 41, lead pastor of New Wine Ministries International in Oceanside, is accused of having unlawful sex with a minor Murrieta girl over a two-year period.
He is charged with seven counts of unlawful intercourse by a person over 21 and 23 counts of lewd acts with a child under 14 years old, according to court records.
He is additionally charged with one count each of committing lewd acts on a child 14 or 15 years old with the defendant being at least 10 years older; one count of oral copulation with a child under 18; sexual penetration with a foreign object and communicating with a minor with the intent to commit a specified offense.
At today's hearing, Riverside County Superior Court Judge Angel Bermudez granted a defense motion for a continuance until Monday so that the defendant could secure an attorney.
Bermudez set bail at $1 milion and served Anderson with a protective order, enjoining him not to have contact with the alleged victim, named only as Jane Doe in court papers.
Anderson, a Hemet resident, was arrested at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday near the alleged victim's Murrieta home as he arrived, allegedly to pick up the girl, police said.
Police believe Anderson, president and lead pastor of New Wine Ministries International in Oceanside, met the girl through the church two years ago.
The girl and her mother attended the church, police said.
A bio page on the church website says Anderson is married and the father of six.

Why is it that we as parents, repeatedly suspend common sense and sound judgement when it comes to allowing these "Servants of God" access to our children?
