Olympic Gold Medalist Calls Murrieta Home

In 2008, Maris Strombergs, 25, became the world's first-ever Olympic gold medalist in BMX Cycling. Now he will go for a repeat medal during the 2012 London Olympics.

Maris Strombergs, 25, an Olympic athlete representing Latvia in the 2012 London Olympics, calls Murrieta home.

Also known as "The Machine," Strombergs is originally from Latvia, a small country situated between Poland, Russia and Finland. He has found his niche as an Olympic competitor in the sport of BMX Cycling, something he has done since he was a child.

Strombergs was 21 when he won the Mens Individual gold medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the first year the event was part of the Olympics.

In 2011, he was voted Latvia's "2nd Sexiest Man Alive," according to his Web page.

The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Strombergs will go for a repeat gold medal when the Mens BMX Cycling event gets underway Aug. 8-10 during the London 2012 Olympics.
