MSJC Will 'ShakeOut' For Earthquake Preparedness

More than 8.5 million people are expected to participate in The Great California ShakeOut, which will take place across the state at 10:20 a.m. Thursday.

Mt. San Jacinto College will join other colleges, universities and organizations Thursday in a large-scale earthquake drill.

More than 8.5 million people are expected to participate in The Great California ShakeOut, which will take place across the state at 10:20 a.m. Thursday.

The college will use its MSJC-Alert system to send e-mails, text messages and phone calls to students and employees at its Menifee and San Jacinto campuses to remind them to "Drop, Cover & Hold On."

It will help students, faculty and staff practice safety tips in the event of an actual earthquake, according to MSJC Spokesperson Karin Marriott.

"For the past several weeks, MSJC has been providing information on safety tips at work and around the home in the event of an earthquake," Marriott said in a news release.

"The college has organized informational workshops and hosted events to make students, faculty and staff aware," Marriott said.

Marriott advised visiting Shakeout.org to learn more about how to prepare and protect oneself and loved ones during an earthquake.
