Home Improvement Incentive Program Set to Launch in Murrieta

Local merchants are joining the cause by offering discounts for home improvement and repair materials. Permit fees will be refunded for new residential projects applied for between July 5 and July 13.

Homeowners can get materials discounts from several local proprietors as part of the City of Murrieta's Home Improvement Incentive Project.

The one-week project is slated for July 5-13. During that time, residents who apply for a new residential building permit with the Building and Safety Department will be refunded incurred permit fees upon completion of their projects. The goal is to encourage residents to pursue property enhancements and repairs they have been contemplating.

Examples of projects include patio and balcony decks, garden and retaining walls, columns, carports, swimming pools and spas, re-roofs, minor remodels, energy efficient upgrades, and plumbing, electrical and mechanical. New water heater installation is also covered under the incentive program.

A sticker wil be issued for the permits, which residents can show proprietors when shopping for materials.

Dixieline ProBuild and Arizona Tile have committed to give 15 percent discounts; Lowe's, Home Depot and RCP Block & Brick will give 10 percent off; and Helio Power and WC Heating and Air Conditioning will give $500 off.

"I really have to tip my hat to the local merchants here in Murrieta," said Allen Brock, Murrieta's director of building and safety. "Helio Power has stated that because of this program, they are going to extend their rebates a few weeks."

Other retailers offering incentives include J & W Lumber, Hub Has it!, Lumber Liquidators, Discount Window Supply and Robertson's.

The program is meant to stimulate construction acivity, create jobs, produce sales tax, increase property values and highlight the importance of obtaining proper permits, according to Brock.

If successful, similar projects will be proposed in the future.
