UPDATE: Fire in Menifee Contained at 3 Acres

The fire, reported at 4:09 p.m on Scott Road near Buckwheat Road, was contained to three acres as of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A brush fire on Scott Road in Menifee, just outside Murrieta, was contained to three acres.

Firefighters were expected to remain at the scene for mop-up, according to Jody Hagemann, an information officer with Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Authorities did not yet know what caused the fire to break out.

There were no injuries and no evacuations.

The forward spread of a 5-acre brush fire off Scott Road in Menifee had slowed and burned into a plowed field, according to an update from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Southern California Edison was on their way to repair downed power lines, according to Jody Hagemann with Riverside County Fire.

No evacuations were ordered, and the cause of the fire remained under investigation, Hagemann wrote in a report.

Murrieta firefighters were assisting county crews Wednesday in battling a wildland fire in Menifee, just outside of Murrieta.

The fire was reported at about 4:09 p.m. west of Interstate 215 at Scott and Buckwheats roads, according to Jody Hagemann, an information officer with Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

At least one hundred firefighters, two overhead personnel, two air tankers, bulldozers and water tenders were assigned to the fire.

The fire was five acres and burning toward a hilltop, according to Hagemann.

Some power lines were down in the area of Scott and Buckwheat roads, Hagemann wrote in a report.
