CHP to Conduct St. Patrick's Day Checkpoint

The checkpoint will take place at an undisclosed location in southwest Riverside County.

California Highway Patrol plans to conduct a sobriety/driver's license checkpoint Saturday, St. Patrick's Day, in unincorporated southwest Riverside County.

The checkpoint will take place at an undisclosed location, according to a news release. Motorists approaching it will see signs advising them a checkpoint is ahead, said Officer Nathan Baer, CHP spokesperson for the Temecula area.

Drivers will be diverted into one lane momentarily as they are contacted by an officer, who will explain the checkpoint and ask for their driver's license, Baer said.

CHP sobriety checkpoints are conducted in accordance with the guidelines for checkpoint operations outlined in the California Supreme Court decision, Ingersoll vs. Palmer, Baer said.

Traffic volume permitting, CHP plans to check all drivers, he said.

"The CHP reminds motorists to not drink and drive," Baer said. "We know that St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are often accompanied by drinking. If you are going to enjoy a green beer, do it responsibly. Designate a sober driver."

In addition, the Murrieta Police Department announced it will  Friday.
