Busted: Massive Teen Party Based On 'Project X' Movie

Word of mega teen party spread like wildfire on Facebook and Twitter this week, but the invite reached one too many: the cops.

According to the Facebook page called F*** It Up Fridays, a massive party in Perris in which more than 25,000 invites were sent to teens throughout the Southland was busted before it got started tonight.

Deputy Angel Ramos of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that police “were fully aware” of the bash, but said he could not provide details of the operation. He did confirm no arrests had been made at press time.

Word of the police intercept spread quickly on social media sites, with messages flying across both Twitter and Facebook Friday night. Some messages indicate the party was being moved to Lake Elsinore, however Deputy Ramos would not provide details about what police are hearing.

According to one teen who asked to remain anonymous, the party was big talk on high school campuses all over southwest Riverside County this week, including those in Murrieta.

More than 3,000 people confirmed they were going to the party, and more than 1,000 confirmed with a “maybe” on the event’s Facebook page.

It’s unclear which individuals or organizations came up with the idea to throw the party, but according to the Facebook page the bash was based on the movie “Project X.” The film is about a group of friends who set out to throw “the most epic 17th birthday party ever.” Click the attached video to see a trailer of the movie. According to the teen source, Friday night’s party was a birthday celebration.

“Cracks @ 8 p.m. and will go until the sun rises!” read one post on the Facebook page.

The bash was allegedly going to feature alcohol. Deputy Ramos reminded the public that adults who supply alcohol to underage minors can be held criminally liable, and the seriousness increases if there is an injury or death.

The deputy said people who want to throw large-scale events must obtain a county permit and follow the law.
