5 Things to Know in Murrieta Today: July 10

"Meet the Critters" today at Petco in Murrieta.

1.) Temperatures will be up there again today, according to the National Weather Service. It is expected to be sunny with a high near 91. Tonight, expect clear skies, with a low around 60. Winds could gust up to 20 mph.

REMINDER: Beat the heat by staying indoors and avoiding exercise or outdoor activities in the middle of the day. Wear loose fitting clothing, shield yourself from the sun and wear sunscreen. If you do want to get out today, stay cool stopping by the community pool at . Open swim is from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Adults get in for $2 and children for $1.

2.) Head to in Murrieta for its “Meet the Critters” event featuring the Leopard Gecko. Beginning at 1 p.m., get a hands-on experience and learn about geckos and other small amphibians. This is a free event and those of all ages are welcome. For more information, click here.

3.) Today marks the one-year anniversary of the . Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. there will be train rides, face-painting, balloons, peanut brittle, kettle corn, shaved ice, barbecue and cake. Shop while you’re at it by stocking up on fresh vegetables for the week or browsing some unique jewelry. Also, find fresh flowers, crafts, specialty food vendors, nuts, fresh breads and bakery items. The market is open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Village Walk Plaza, off Kalmia Street and Village Walk Place.

4.) Go back in time for the classic screening of “Sunset Boulevard” at the . In this 1950s film directed by Billy Wilder, a hack screenwriter writes a screenplay for a former silent-film star who has faded into Hollywood obscurity. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Admission begins at $8.50.

5.)  hosts "Community Day" in which the first 100 non-member students to sign up can enjoy free tumbling and cheer stunting clinics. This event is for kids ages 4 to 18 years. Kids can also meet coaches from the hit cheer movie "Bring It On!" The event starts at 11 a.m. at 38444 Sky Canyon Drive. Call 951-696-2433 for more information.
